NHC 1st Round Nashville

Fellow Beer Folks,
Here is the list of judging times and dates for this years 2016 National Homebrewing Competition 1st round Nashville.

All of the events will be at Blackstone Brewing Company​ production facility 2312 Clifton Ave, Nashville, TN. Styles judges at each session will depend heavily on the turnout of judges and will be determined at that time.

3/30 Wednesday 6 pm – 9 pm
3/31 Thursday 6 pm – 9 pm
4/1 Friday 10 am – 1 pm (1 hour brake), 2 pm – 5 pm (1 hour brake), 6 pm – 9 pm
4/2 Saturday 10 am – 1 pm (1 hour brake), 2 pm – 5 pm (1 hour brake), 6 pm – 9 pm
I ask that all volunteers arrive on site at least 1 hour prior to the start of the scheduled session to allow for check in and briefing.Volunteers that wish to be part of set up please contact Art Whitaker or myself personally for times.

Learn to Homebrew Day

The goal is to teach our non-brewer friends the art of making beer at home. Learn to Homebrew Day (LTHD) was established by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 1999 to encourage homebrewers to introduce their non-brewer friends and family to the most rewarding hobby, obsession and lifestyle since the beginning of time! NSBO Call for Judges & Stewerds

Hello Volunteers!

I would like to introduce you to the first annual — New South Brew Off! This is the 2015 iteration of the Clarksville Carboys annual home brewing competition. It is a fully sanctioned AHA and BJCP event, which will take place Saturday, August 22nd at Union Hall in Clarksville, TN.

Judge and Steward registration is open at the NSBO registration page. There will be a morning session starting at 9:00am and an afternoon session starting at around 1:00pm. All volunteers will receive a light breakfast and lunch. There are several area hotels within 2 miles of the competition for those of you traveling.

There will be a raffle and awards ceremony at the conclusion of judging, followed by the Clarksville Carboys first annual Club Crawl. All festivities must be wrapped up by 11:00pm.

You can register beers for entry into the competition and to volunteer, between now and Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 PM, CDT.  Entries must be received by Friday, August 14, 2015 at 5:00 PM, CDT to be eligible for judging.  This year’s competition is limited to 150 entries.  Each entrant is limited to 10 entries, and may only register one entry per sub-category.

2015 Events

Clarksville Carboys meetings are held at the clubhouse behind Appleton Harley-Davidson. Thank you to the folks at Appleton for welcoming us and allowing us to meet at their facility.

July 2015 Carboy Club Meeting: This month’s meeting will be on Sunday the 12th. The tasting/ BJCP Style profile for March is Category 14  (IPAs) which will start promptly @ 3:30p.m. If you are bringing a classic example, please bring at least three 12 oz bottles or two bombers as the size of the club has grown. Follow the meeting link for map & location details.

Participation is optional, but you have to be in it to win it!

  • One 12oz bottle of a beer gets you one ticket for the beer box raffle. Put a beer in the raffle box for a chance at walking away with the whole thing!
  • Bring a few dollars for the fund raising raffle for a chance to win a homebrew related prize. Tickets are $1 each or $2 for 3.

Learn to Homebrew Day at The Grog: 01 Nov, We’ll be setting up a couple of brew sessions at The Grog Home Brewing Supply on Ft. Campbell Blvd. to demonstrate the brewing process for people interested in learning how to homebrew. We’ll be doing one extract brew and one all-grain brew, so you can see the process as it’s done from a kit and from scratch. Also there will be some equipment demonstrations and some homebrewed beer available for tasting. Follow the link for details, directions, etc.

Update: Learn to Homebrew Day was a success! Had some new folks stop by and check us out, and got some folks interested in trying their hand at brewing into The Grog to check out the supplies and equipment. Maybe picked up a few new members as well. A great time was had by all despite the chilly temperatures. Looking to make this event bigger and better next go-round. Thanks to Paul and Penny at The Grog for hosting and providing snacks, and thanks to Jonathan White for bringing a big ol’ pot of hot Kentucky Burgoo to keep the chills at bay.

Big Brew Day 2014 is here!

One of our most fun events (imho) is Big Brew Day. Come on out and join us if you can, it’s always a great time. Details, directions & map. A celebration of National Homebrew Day, known as AHA Big Brew, is now in its 17th year. Clarksville Carboys Homebrew Club will host a local gathering on May 3, 2014.

Organized by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), AHA Big Brew celebrates National Homebrew Day, honored on the first Saturday of May each year. AHA Big Brew brings together thousands of homebrewers from around the world, all brewing the same beers simultaneously. More than 7,000 homebrewers from North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and Australia are expected to participate this year.

Clarksville Carboys is happy to invite anyone interested in homebrewing to stop by.

On May 3, friends and family gather to brew one or all of the three AHA Big Brew recipes. You are not bound to those recipes… brew what you feel. At noon Central time, we will raise our glasses of homebrewed ales and lagers for a simultaneous toast to homebrewing, a hobby that hundreds of thousands of people around the world enjoy.
